Hello Joe H2O,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community!

Two things come to mind, the first being file association and the second being a repair installation.

File association:

·         Navigate to a Word Document

·         Right click the document

·         Highlight Open with…

·         Click Choose default program…

·         Click Browse

·         Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office folder

·         Open the Office folder (for Office 2007 its Office12, your number will be different)

·         Select Winword

·         Click Open

·         Make sure the always use the selected program to open this kind of file box is checked

·         Click OK

Repair installation:

Follow the instructions in the link below for how to run a repair installation of Office 2003.

How to install or repair and reinstall Office 2003

If neither of those solutions work, check with the Office Discussion Groups community as they will be better suited to help you get Word working correctly again.

Hope that helps.
