VPN dial up error 797 (modem not found)

I get a Error 797 (modem not found) error when I try to connect to my ADSL connection. This recently started and I do not know what else to try, I have uninstalled the modem and reinstalled with no effect.  I have Windows 7 and the only thing that changed was a Windows update.  Please help.
