Windows 7 Taskbar icon not showing when pinned

Hi all, I have a bit of a problem. I'm not sure what caused it, but I can no longer pin Windows Explorer to my task bar without the icon breaking.

Here's the strange thing - I can pin it to the taskbar, but at that point, the image is replaced with this icon. As long as Windows Explorer is not pinned, the normal folder icon shows up fine. I've tried restarting, which didn't help, and I don't have any available system restore points. I am using several custom icons, but nothing that has anything to do with Windows Explorer. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer

You must find the file in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local

The C:\Users\Kousik Adhikary\AppData\Local is specific for the user Kousik Adhikary

You can run from command line (start>Run>cmd  or start>Search: CMD) :

DEL /AH "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\IconCache.db"

this will delete the file, then restart the computer

UPDATE: ONLY STOP ALL SERVICES OF EXPLORER.EXE, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO RESTART WINDOWS.

  1. Ctrl+Alt+Delete: Start Task Manager
  2. Right click  then stop in every line with Explorer.exe
  3. File>New task(Run...)
  4. Write "Explorer.exe" then close the windows
