Win 7 - Desktop Gadget (clock) has vanished

I've been using the "clock" desktop gadget in Win 7. For no apparent reason, the seconds hand vanished, I tried uninstalling the clock, thinking that I could reinstall it and restore the missing hand. But when I try to use ths control panel "desktop gadgets" to re-establish the clock, there's no clock gadget available.

To restore the gadget:  Click Start/search, type restore gadgets and the following control panel application should appear "Restore desktop gadgets installed with Windows". Select and run, the clock gadget should reappear and you can reinstall.

You can also find this by opening the Control Panel and typing gadget in Search.

 

To get the second hand showing again after getting the clock on the desktop, click on the options (the little wrench on the right-hand side) and check the box "Show the second hand".
