Transparent GIF as Desktop background picture

With Windows XP we could use a GIF image with a transparent background as Wallpaper (Desktop Background picture) which then allowed the Desktop background color to show through and around the image.

Attempting to use this image as a Windows 7 desktop background picture the transparent background of the image just shows as white.

Is there any way that Window 7 supports images with transparent backgrounds for the desktop wallpaper/picture?

Hello toyNN,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community.

Windows 7 converts images for background into .jpeg, unfortunately having a transparent background is not possible.

Hope this helps
