Computer wakes up from Sleep mode immediately

There could be many factors interrupting Windows 7 sleep feature. Here’s how you can find out.

Method 1: Disable Wake on LAN (WOL) feature.

When you enable WOL, the network adapter continues listening to the network when the computer is asleep. WOL wakes the computer if it receives a special data packet. This can result to unwanted wake up events during sleep mode.

To disable it, follow these steps.

a.    Go to Start.

b.    Type in  Device Manager into the start menu search box.

c.    Navigate to “Network Adapters” and find your network adapter.

d.    Right-click it and choose Properties from the menu. In the resulting dialog, choose the Power Management tab.

e.    Uncheck the box next to “Allow this device to wake the computer” to solve the problem.

Method 2: Find out what wakes up your Windows 7/Vista from its sleep

Step 1:

To find out what event/device woke up your Windows from its sleep state, use powercfg command.

Here’s how:

a.    Go to Start and type cmd.

b.    Press Enter.

c.    Type the following command and then press Enter.
powercfg – lastwake

d.    To get the most detailed info (and probably easiest) on the device that wakes your Windows up during the sleep, type the following command and then press Enter.
powercfg –devicequery wake_armed

You’ll find a list of devices that wakes up the computer.
