(win10) "This app can't open: Check the Windows Store for more info about..." but Windows Store crashes when I try to open it

Tried both methods recommended to other users.

Ran the apps troubleshooter which found no issues. Then I ran WSreset.exe with the following results;

Error window:
"ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches
The application cannot be started. Try reinstalling the application to fix the problem"

This issue is very frustrating as no app will open now.

  2. Click File > Run New Task
  3. Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  4. Type Powershell

Type the following in the Powershell prompt:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

  1. Wait for PowerShell to execute and complete the command. Ignore the few errors (in red color) that may pop up.
  2. When it finishes, try hitting Start and hopefully it’ll start working.

Please reply with the results. I will be glad to help you further.

Thank you.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. I have tried all 3 of your suggestions without success.

Method 1: Perform a sfc scan on the computer to check if there are any corruptions on the computer. Please follow the below link to perform a sfc scan on the computer. Results;

No errors found

Method 2: Try to perform a DISM commands on the computer. Please follow the below link to know how to perform DISM in Windows. Completed but did not fix the problem. Results;

Method 3:Run Power shell Command - At first this looked promising, ps appeared to be making some repairs but had no apparent affect after completion. Windows store and other apps still crash or don't open. Below I have printed the results;

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.Ins

This all started happening the first time I tried to open a .jpeg file. I tried to workaround the problem b y joining the insider program. Now most of the apps are working again, except photos, xbox and of course Windows Store app.

Is there a way I can manually install(or re-install) the latest Windows Store app?

I had this same problem after the update. It wouldn't open Explorer, Search and I couldn't even do a restore. I tried Method 1 and 2 with no luck. Method 3 seems to have fixed everything.

I wish I was that lucky :-( I've googled for hours tried every fix, idea and workaround available and it's still broken. What's so important with the update that Microsoft can't temporarily rollback?

Ps. Can you open a .jpeg with the photo app @Ruth Buruga?

The only solution that worked for me;

     1. Download windows 10 media creator using this guide
     2. Install it onto a usb
     3. Back up important documents/photos
     3. Reboot pc and load from usb
     4. format all disk drives
     5. Clean install windows 10

You lose everything but it fixes windows 10. Everything works at the cost of a lot of pain and suffering. Cheers Microsoft :-)
