Unable to install extension for Microsoft Edge after Anniversary Update

Here is the problem: This app encountered a problem. Please reinstall it to repair

Same circle. Reinstall and same message pop up. Cannot get out

What I already did:

- Time Zone is correct > Check

- Proxy and Auto Detect off > Check

- WSreset.exe > Check

- Background Intelligent transfer service troubleshoot > Check

- Create another account and try to download >> Check (and failed)

- Window Store app troubleshoot > Check

System protection can't help since this is the first update to enable extension.

This problem only applied for extension in Window Store. Any other app installed and worked fine.

This problem is driving me crazy. 4 months waiting and nothing but pain. What should I do? I don't want to do a clean install

Answer

I was able to fix pocket using Powershell:

  1. Open Powershell as admin.
  2. Type: "Get-AppxPackage *pocket* | Remove-AppxPackage" without the quotes this will unsintall pocket. You can try skipping step 3.
  3. Type: "Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}" without the quotes.
this will reinstall all stock apps including the Windows Store
  4. Now you should be able to install Pocket through the Windows Store.

I this should work with any other extension just replace *pocket* int step 2 with *extensionname*. You can list all installed packages with Get-AppxPackage if you can't figure out the name of the broken extension.

Edit: Added screenshots and made the steps easier to understand.

Step 1:
