Did you make any recent changes to your computer?
Is your computer installed with any third party Antivirus or Online security software?
Is your device up to date with Windows 10 version and Updates? Press Windows logo key + R to open run command, type Winver
and hit Enter key. Now check the version and build.
Press Windows Key + R to open run command. Type
ms-settings: and hit Enter key. If it brings Settings out, then navigate to
Update & Security/> Windows Update and check for any available updates. If you want to confirm that any windows Update caused this issue, then on
Windows Update window click Advanced options /> View your update history,
there you can find all installed updates along with the date of installation. Now see and let us know if any windows update installed on particular point of time when the problem started.
If you receive Windows Update error 80070422 while downloading updates or apps, you might need to change the Windows Update service settings, and then restart the service.
Before doing that, ensure that your laptop Time, Date and Region settings are set accordingly. Go to
Start /> Settings /> Time & Language and check the same. If your PC is installed with any third party Antivirus Software or Online Security Software, then ensure that they shouldn't be causing any issues to Windows Updates. If in case problem
still persist, then try the below troubleshooting steps to see if they fix the issue.
Method 1:
Try to run the Windows update troubleshooter and see if it fix the issue:
* Press Windows Key then type ‘troubleshoot’ and select the same from the list.
* Select “View all” on the left panel and run “Windows update” troubleshooter from the list
* Click Advanced, ensure to check Apply repairs automatically
and also select Run as administrator
* Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting.
Once done, check if it allows you install Windows Updates without any errors.
If that doesn't work, try the following steps. To change or restart the Windows Update service
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
Click Start button, type Services.msc
and select same from the list.
Click the Name column heading to sort the names in reverse order. Find the
Windows Update service, right-click it, and then click
Properties.
On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that
Automatic is selected.
Next to Service status, check to see if the service is started. If it is not, click
Start. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or
provide confirmation. Now check if it fix the issue.
Method 2:
In case problem is appearing due to System files, then try to execute below troubleshooting steps. They will fix any infected or corrupted system files, if they causing any issues.
Step 1: Use System File Checker to repair damaged Windows files
Use the System File Checker tool to repair damaged Windows files. To do this, follow these steps:
Press Windows logo key + X, select Command Prompt(Admin).
Run the "sfc /scannow" command by copy/pasting it into the Command prompt(Admin) and hit
Enter key.
Once it complete, try to install updates again to see if they work correctly
If the problem continues, use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool to fix Windows Update corruption errors. To do this, follow these steps:
Press Windows logo key + X, select Command Prompt(Admin).
Run the "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" command by copy/pasting it into the Command prompt(Admin) and hit
Enter key
Once it complete, try to install updates again to see if they work correctly.
Important:When you run this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruptions. However, if your Windows Update client is already broken, use a running Windows installation as the repair
source, or use a Windows side-by-side folder from a network share or from a removable media, such as the Windows DVD, as the source of the files. To do this, run the following command instead:
