Windows 10 upgrade error C1420127

Hi,

I tried to upgrade Win 8.1 Pro several times both through Windows Update and the standalone installer, and it failed each time.

If I start the WU update, WU downloads the files, creates the $WINDOWS.BT folder and then, near the end of the process, displays a failed update screen with the C1420127 error code.

Clicking Try Again immediately displays a "No updates are available" screen.

I tried deleting both the SoftwareDistribution/Download and $WINDOWS.BT folders. I also tried running the Windows Update Fix-It tool. I don't have an AV running at the moment. Nothing worked.

Then I tried downloading and running the Win10 Setup program. It downloaded the files, ran preliminary checks and updates, went full-screen ("Installing Windows 10") and then, when it reached 20%, it shut down and displayed a "Windows 10 Installation has failed" error messages. I tried running it a few more times, including running the setup from a USB drive and nothing worked.

Any help?

Hi,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

You are running any security software or Anti-virus on your computer, i suggest you to disable it and check if it works.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

You can also place the system in clean boot and check if it works.

Please follow this link below to place the system in clean boot.

http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note: Once you are done with clean boot, please follow the section How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting the article to put your computer back to normal.

Thank You.

(Thank you Microsoft for this helpful message)

Same here. Editing the Registry worked for me. Apparently, the previous installation attempt created a mounted image and forgot to remove it.
