As with every new version of Windows 10, Microsoft will phase in the new release. That means, select machines will get the upgrade before others. Microsoft is using artificial intelligence to determine this.

Its possible, Windows Update has determined your machine is not ready yet. In the mean time, I would ensure that you have a proper backup of your current Windows 10 installation and your files before upgrading.

See steps how to backup your machine:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-win_upgrade/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-windows-10/84fa6683-e3ac-4e93-9139-368af9267869

If you insist on upgrading right away, you can do so using the Windows Update Assistant:

 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Click Update now

Alternatively, you can download the ISO file and upgrade using that manually too:

Microsoft has currently pulled the Windows 10 October update due to data loss with a number of users during the upgrade process.

I was able to do this (update assistant) for one of my PCs a couple of weeks ago, but I waited to do it on my main one, and now, I can't get it to work. The link takes you to the page, but it say's "Windows 10 April 2018 Update now available". Not letting that stop me, I clicked the Download Now button, and ran the update assistant and up pops "Thank you for upgrading to the latest version of Windows", Yet I'm still at Build Version 1803. I definitely want to update it, but it seems I'm not going to be allowed to. What gives?

With you, dude.

The conventional wisdom has always been to not pounce on a new upgrade as soon as it's available. That's for suckers.

Let the tech pros and corporate testers uncover the early problems that are inevitable in a project as complicated as Windows, and give Microsoft a chance to fix them.

Most people should wait at least 3 months before installing a new feature update.

This link you provided  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 tells me that my machine is up to date but I am still on version 1803.  I don't want to get the update via ISO. Is there any other way?
