pc settings window not opening on windows 10

After upgrading to windows 10 from windows 8, I cannot open the Settings function from the main Start menu (or anywhere else). The window appears to open then closes itself. I have restarted several times, and I have also tried to update Windows 10 but it appears to no longer have a manual update feature - does it now automatically update itself? Anyway appreciate help on getting the Settings menu to load properly - thanks.

Answer

Try this - Click on Settings even though it will disappear.

Then Right click bottom of screen and select Task Manager and then processes.   See if Settings is displayed.  If it is right click and select Open file Location - then select Pin to Start and then Pin to Taskbar.   At least you will have it there until you can figure out what happened.
