Paint Shop Pro 9

This is my favorite image editing program and I cannot afford the upgraded program--and I don't understand it anyway; I had version X3 when I was using Win7 and never understood it and hated the black background, and ended up uninstalling it, plus X3 won't work on Win10 anyway. I had PSP9 installed on Windows 10 and it worked fine. Yesterday it quit working. If I clicked on the icon and the little circle went around for a while and then quit. Task Manager would say it was open but it wasn't.

I finally decided to uninstall it. I can't even do THAT. It will not uninstall, it will not repair with the CD, it will not do anything. It just gets stuck on "registering modules" no matter what I try to do. And if I cancel OUT of uninstalling or repairing, THAT locks up, too. I have to reboot the computer to keep it from running in the background.

PLEASE HELP. I use this to edit images for my website. I can't afford a new version. IT WORKED FINE LAST TUESDAY.

Linda

Hi Linda,

To further isolate the issue, please provide the details of these following questions:

  1. Did you make any changes before the issue occurs? If you did, what is it?

  2. Is your drivers updated?

  3. What troubleshooting have you done so far?

We'll be waiting for your response.

Regards.

Download Revo uninstaller free & see if that will uninstall it, if not there's a force uninstall option but don't know whether that's just in the pro version.

You could try deleting within safe mode or if all else fails delete the psp 9 folder & restart the pc.

Hi, Ken,

Sorry to not get back sooner; busy at work. Thank you both for responding.

I did not make any changes before the issue occurred.  I used it successfully on November 1 to edit two photographs. On November 9 when I tried to open it to edit a photo it would not open. I tried all different things, including changing the compatibility settings, and nothing worked. Then I figured I would uninstall it and reinstall it, both using add/remove programs and using the original PSP9 disk. When it wouldn't install, I tried to repair using the PSP9 disk. Any time I try to do anything with it, It gets stuck on "registering modules."

I am not sure of what drivers you mean. I have Windows 10 on automatic updates. Corel does not make PSP9 anymore. I think they're on version 18 now.

And that's all the troubleshooting I have done.

Hi, Time Lady, I have never heard of Revo uninstaller. I hesitate to use programs I do not know about on my computer. I got a virus from something I downloaded from CNET once and it completely killed Windows XP on me.

Thanks,

Linda

I never use third party download sites unless I must do, this is the official site for Revo uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html there's a 30 day trial pro version which has the forced uninstall. Choosing that option asks you for the folder where the program is installed, once entered it'll force the uninstall then you can scan for leftover registry & file/folder entries.

Did the problem get fixed with PSP9?  If so what did you do?  Mine has experienced exactly the same problem in the last couple of days.  Tried uninstalling/reinstalling, repairing.  It gets stuck at the point of saying it is 'registering modules'.

I have tried following the advice about Dropbox disabling but absolutely nothing is working.  It is very frustrating as I use PSP9 for a small home business and I get on very well with it for what I need.  I don't want to pay out for a new package as I keep hearing that Windows 10 doesn't allow many of the programs to run, so it may end up being money thrown away.

Martin, I finally had to contact Corel and they gave me an uninstaller. I had a lot of trouble with it because it would tell me the program was uninstalled and it would still show up under apps. I finally ran it again and just left it for a half hour, and I guess it took that long to uninstall.

I did not try reinstalling it as it caused so many problems. I dipped into savings and bought X9 instead; luckily it was on sale.
