How can I log in as an administrator?

I am the only user on my computer and am thus listed as an administrator.  But I'm trying to install a new program and I received the following message: "You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications.  Please rerun this installation from an administrator's account."  So what do I need to do so that the system will recognize me as an administrator?

Can you right click on the setup file > Run As Administrator and see whether it allows you to install?

If above doesn't work try to install in clean boot mode. I
Boot your computer in Clean boot mode.
Refer to the section - Install, uninstall, or run an application
Don't forget to do - Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting.

Let me know if you have any further question or require further help. Will be glad to help you.

Hi Bob,

Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software

Then right click Software and choose permissions

Allow Full Control for the Administrator, Administrators, and SYSTEM Groups

Then navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID

Then right click CLSID and choose permissions

Allow Full Control for the Administrator, Administrators, and SYSTEM Groups

Restart your PC

Tried this method.  It didn't work for me.  (Could it be because there was Administrator group listed in either location?)  Any  way, after trying this, I tried the Clean Boot method recommended in my other response, and that did the job for me.  So All is now Good.  Thanks for your help.

Correction to my previous reply:  I meant to say there was NO administrator group listed in either location.

Any way, thanks again for your response.

This seemed a little more complicated than the other method recommended, so I tried that one first.  When that didn't work, I moved on to the clean boot method.  Worked like a champ.  Thanks so much for your help.
