0x80070001 error during Windows 10 USB installation

I have assembled a new PC and tried to install Windows 10 on my M.2 SSD. During the installation (at about 15%) I get an error message 0x80070001, telling me that the program can't find all necessary files.

What have I tried so far:

1. Downloading the ISO several times.

2. Using another USB drive.

3. Running Memcheck with 0 errors.

My configuration:

Gigabyte H370 HD3 motherboard

Intel i7 9700

Western Digital Black WDS250G3X0C M.2 SSD

Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK8GX4M1A2666C16 DDR4

I recommend you reset the BIOS to its default values and then when you go to install Windows I recommend you delete the SSD partitions and create them again

Hello AlexFionov, my name is Farah and I'm an Independent Adviser. I can help you regarding this problem

Since you already tested your memory, we have one option which is recreating the windows USB install image,
How did you create the Bootable USB? Windows Media creation tool or have you used a third party app?
last question, Is your Bios UEFI or is it a legacy bios?

Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved

Cheers!
Farah

Hello F.Farah, thank you.

I downloaded the official tool from the Microsoft website (tried both Russian and English versions, if it matters). My BIOS is UEFI (since it has a "legacy support" option).

Hello AlexFionov,

Could you please try to recreate the USB bootable disk using Microsoft USB/DVD tool to burn the iso to the usb again?
Then try one more time to boot up and see if it gets better.

Please let me know how it goes
Cheers!

I downloaded the ISO and created a bootable USB drive with the tool from your link. The first time I booted it, the installation program displayed a lot of small partitions (from the previous installation attempt, I assume). I tried to delete them, but it would not work ("Could not delete the partition, error code 0x80070001"). Then I clicked "Refresh" and the program stopped seeing the SSD at all and told me it could not load the drivers.

I booted the second time with the same result - a lot of partitions that can not be deleted. I tried to install Windows in the "Main" partition and it said it did not see the drive to install to. Clicked "Refresh" and all partitions were gone again, just like the first time.

Hello AlexFionov,
You need to reset your hard disk and delete all partitions on it to start over.
Please follow the steps in this thread, The solution there should help in your case.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

- When the welcome screen comes up on Windows Setup, press Shift + F10, which will display a command prompt.
- Type "diskpart" (no quotes) and press enter.
- Type "list disk" and press enter.
- Hopefully you can see your SSD in the list. You should see a number identifying it. Now type "select disk X" (where X is the number identifying your SSD) and press enter.
- Type "clean" and press enter. This will write a blank MBR, YOU WILL LOSE ANY DATA ON THE SSD if you did have anything on it.

Please let me know if this solves your problem
Farah

Hello F.Farah,

Did as instructed, the only drive in the list was the 14GB USB I was using to boot. The BIOS still recognizes the SSD, surprisingly.

Can you check your bios? See what is the SATA Mode is set up to. change it from AHCI as a test.
Disable LPM support in SATA configuration,
See If your BIOS is updated to the last version "Last version came around 2019-06"

BIOS version is F14 installed in 2019/06. LPM was disabled by default. Changed AHCI to Intel RST. The drive was recognized again, but the installation failed with the same 0x80070001 error.

My SSD uses PCI-E x4 interface, maybe that is the matter.
