Your PC did not start correctly Windows 10

Original title: Windows 10 "upgrade = blue screen of death

Upon initial restart after upgrading to Windows 10, I get a blue screen that states "automatic repair: your PC did not start correctly".  I then have the choice to "restart" which is circular or "advanced settings" none of which correct the problem.  I cannot get past this blue screen to windows environment.  I don't have software disc as windows 7 (?) can preloaded on my Dell.

I don't have any restore points, cant reset, and can only restart which take me back to the blue screen.

Any ideas before I lose my mind?!

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum. I will certainly help you with this.

This issue could occur due to corrupted files. Let’s try to follow these methods below which can help us resolving this issue.

Method 1: Check in safe mode.

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you're using.

Follow the steps given below and check if that helps.

  1. Type settings in search and click on Settings.
  2. Click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
  3. Under Advanced startup, tap or click Restart now.
  4. Once your PC restarts, on the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot.
  5. If you don't see the Startup Settings option, tap or click advanced options.
  6. Tap or click Startup Settings.
  7. Tap or click Restart.
  8. On the Startup Settings screen, choose the Safe Mode.
  9. Sign in to your PC with a user account that has administrator rights.

If the issue doesn’t occur in safe mode, follow step 2.

Method 2: Startup repair

To run Startup repair from Advance boot option, follow the below steps:

  1. Press and hold Shift key and click on Restart in Power icon.
  2. Click on Troubleshoot.
  3. Click on Advanced Options.
  4. Now click on Startup Repair.
  5. Follow the further instructions

Please post back with the results. We will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for the detailed information. However, step 1 worked but when following step 2, I get an error that states "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC"

Log file: D:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt

What now?

Hi,

Thank you for replying.

You may try to disconnect all the external devices except Monitor, keyboard and mouse and check.

You may try to boot from the Windows 10 media and try performing an Startup repair from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

To perform Automatic repair on Windows 10 computer follow these steps:

a) Insert the media such as (USB or DVD) and restart your computer

b) Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:

c) Click Next and select Repair your computer.

d) You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose. Choose the option Troubleshoot and select Advanced options.

e) You may choose Startup Repair from Advanced boot option.

You may refer to the below link to download the ISO and create the installation media:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Keep us posted if you face any issues on windows in future. We will be glad to help you.

Thanks & Regards,
AS

It does not work either in my case. What the hell is happening with Windows 10?.It was supposed to be better than win 7 or 8 but only problems problems problems.I installed on august the 8th and since then only restarts occur.I think I have to forget about my laptop and buy a new one.Thank you Microsoft for screwing up my life.Btw are you going to pay for a new one? I cannot afford another month of searching in the forums and trying everything but nothing happens.I am waiting for the 20 minute restart any time now

I ended up resetting my computer and removing all apps but keeping my personal content. That seemed to have done the trick but now I am trying to get some of my software back. Very exhausting process that I wish I had never started.

I have restore points but each one kicks out saying,"There was a problem. No changes were made." I also tried reset with the same response. The computer tells me I should uninstall my AVG as it is causing my problems. I cannot even get to the Control panel to do this. I have even tried using command prompts. I know nothing about this. I got as far as my syntax was incorrect and I gave up.  I am  at a total loss. Any help would be immensely appreciated.
