Windows 10 blue screen - BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

Upgraded to Windows 10, getting blue screen error: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

Decided to upgrade my Dell laptop to Windows 10, was running 7 on it. The install process seemed to go smoothly up until I had to login for the first time. PC would crash every time I input my password or click next.

I ended up downloading the Win10 usb install option to see if I could repair installation, did not work - now it boots into the blue screen error BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

Anyone had a similar issue? Is there a work-around I can do via the CMD? Hard drive is okay from what I can tell since I can boot into Ubuntu and see all my windows files.

**Cannot even start up in safe mode, it crashes :O

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. I understand the inconvenience you are facing. I will certainly help you with this.

As per you issue description you were able to download Windows 10 USB media, I suggest you to custom install Windows 10 keeping all your files. After custom installing Windows 10 and booting to desktop environment try to run SFC scan to repair corrupted system file.

Kindly follow the below given steps:

  1. Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.

  2. In Command prompt type sfc/scannow and press enter.

  3. Restart the computer.

Hope the information helps. Do reply if you need further assistance, we will be happy to help you.

Thank you.

It doesn't work when you choose to recover it keeping your files. How do I get out of it?

I managed to get access to the command prompt to try another scan.

It says theres a system repair pending which requires a reboot to complete. But I can't get that repair because of the WDF_Violation error that pops up as a BSOD.

When I restart I get this and then it continues on the endless loop of this error and the Bad System Config error and back again.

I have access to my windows files with the harddrive using a dock and another computer, is there any code or something I can edit

use "xcopy" command prompt and select the file and the destination place you want to save like usb drive. It will help you get all the documents/folders. But don't forget to re-install your operating system and have a recovery/Back up drive on the computer.

e.g of command prompt

D:\>xcopy / E /I M:\Users\John\....\.. F:\boot

M:\.... is the file location  F:\... is the destination it's gonna copy

Exactly the same problem with a Haswell i7 GTX780 PC using 16Gb RAM, with W10 (installed easily a few days ago over Windows 8.1 Pro) on a V-Nand SSD. This PC has run great all year..... until three days after installing W10

PC was FULLY up to date and hardware was not changed. BSoD then BSoD then BSoD etc etc etc.

I spent half the night trying to fix it, and have tried a whole bunch of boot up fixes (including sfc /scannow etc).

STUCK.

I looked in BIOS (I even re-loaded the latest BIOS and renewed the Mo-Bo battery; but no change),  to date nuthin works; ..........................but I did notice in BIOS that UEFI seems to not be visible anymore.

Does Windows 10 nerf UEFI somehow on a delay mechanism? Or is it an MSCONFIG issue?

You would think the autofix in windows 10 would have actually done what it is supposed to (and fix any glitched System code). but I guess we had high hopes for what now appears to be a failing company.

OP here, ended up just doing a clean install - that fixed everything.

Saved all the files that needed saving by booting into Ubuntu (yay linux).

It's been 2 weeks since my upgrade and not too happy with all the privacy issues I've been reading about, Windows 10 likes to phone home to MS servers...... alot.
