I have installed the single normal cumulative patch on several production/test machines with no side effects.  The root cause is not the update, it's the two patches being installed at the same time.  They expired the patch off WSUS but if you caught it between approval and when they expired it, you'd get nailed with this dual patch disaster.

I'm sure both patches were pulled down to my local WSUS server which then deployed to my Alpha test group.

I have confirmed that the Delta patch no longer exists in WSUS and so far, so good.

I had this issue on my home PC. After Automatic Repair failed, I rebooted and hit F8 to get the boot options menu and booted into safe mode. Windows started to load, then crashed. Rinse and repeat (once, maybe twice). Windows booted properly into safe mode, restarted, finished installing updates, restarted at least once and loaded Windows normally.

I do not have USB-C on my PC, as has been reported as a potential cause / link to the problem. I have an old ASUS mobo that was only just new enough at purchase to have USB 3 on board.

So far i have not had issues  with 3 different PCs.  I have an intel i74770k at 4.2 ghz on asus,  core 2 duo 3.33 8600 on asus pro, and intel 2.0 e4400 gigabyte. All windows 10 pro. Sorry to hear of all issues for other users.

Hope MS gets a hotfix for other users.

I dont understand what most of these guys have said but nothing is working.  I tried toubleshooting and manually downloading it, but the update still hangs.  It just won't download.  Or install.  I think the update is just never going to install on my machine.  I can't find any way to cancel or stop it so now I'm stuck with a machine that reboots twice because an update will NEVER install.

You are in a different boat than the rest. You can't install it, they got bsod.  Have you tried going to the download page, manually downloading the full update and attempting to install it thataway?

Go here: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4041676

Download ONLY the cumulative update not the delta for the 64bit platform to a location on your computer.  Click on the file that downloads and see if it manually installs.

I have this same problem when trying to install Windows 10 update KB4041676. I get the message: "We couldn't install the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer." Then, the next time I start my PC, it tries to reinstall and fails again.  See update history below.

When I tried to download it manually and install it manually as suggested by Susan Bradley below...

Go here: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4041676

Download ONLY the cumulative update not the delta for the 64bit platform to a location on your computer.  Click on the file that downloads and see if it manually installs.

... I get the message: "Update KB4041676 is already installed."

Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks.

Force a full restart of the system.

Now attempt to manually install the update from the catalog site again.
