Does Windows Operating license expire on your laptop personal computer?

I recently received a notice that my Windows License is about to expire and I need to activate it in Windows settings.

I purchased my laptop in year 2013 and it came with Windows 7 operating system. I took advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade in 2016. Am I required to activate the Windows 10 operating system license after the free upgrade? I also recently purchased Office 365 from Microsoft store.

How do you activate Windows license?

To check if your computer is activated;
Right click Start, click Command Prompt(Admin)
enter slmgr /xpr  Then hit the Enter key
It will tell you when it expires.

.

This is the computer activation.

.

Right click the start windows, click Run, type in winver, hit enter.

This will tell you what build you are using.  If it is greater then 14395 then it is an Insider testing build and it will expire or has expired.

If this answers your question - Then mark it so. Then others may find it.

Dear Lawrence

Many thanks the results I got when I clicked Run and entered winver was Microsoft Windows version 1607 (OS Build 14393.693).

Does this mean my Windows operating system will not stop? What should I do?

Regards

Vincent

You can just press windows key+r and type in Winver. No need to enter slmgr /xpr into the cmd prompt. The Winver window will tell you all of the information you need.

Windows 10 does not expire if you upgraded from a valid Windows 7 or Windows 8 license.

Office 365 subscriptions (which include Word, Excel, Outlook etc) do expire and must be maintained.

If Windows 7 is reporting that will expire soon, try re-entering your Windows 7 product key.

Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Change the product key then enter the new product key then click Next to Activate

If you are unable to activate Windows 10 after all the above and you are certain you have the correct edition installed, then please attempt phone activation:

Windows 7 came preinstalled on my computer, how do I find the product key?

The product key is usually located on the COA sticker attached to the bottom of your laptop or in the battery compartment. In some rare cases it can also be found in the memory compartment. For tower systems, look at the top or the side of the system unit. It looks like the following:

Basically a expiring license indicates that the license is a Volume License Edition.

Try opening CMD with Admin Rights

Type in - slmgr -dli

This will give you the channel whether Retail or OEM or Volume etc.

Try that command and post your results.

Mostly if it is volume license, then we might have to try to reactivate it with your Windows 7 key.
Worst case scenario is if we fail to activate and if it is volume license, after the expired period Windows will automatically restart after 3 hours - Since the product is no longer active, this happens. In this case, depending upon the product key of Windows 7, we might need to reinstall the appropriate edition of Windows 7 or 10 using the Windows 7 key

No Winver does not tell you that the computer is activated.  If you happen to be running an evaluation copy it will have an expiration date of that build.  This is for the build and has nothing to do with the activation of the computer.
