HELP! "Get Windows 10" VIRUS!!!!; icon in my notification area

PLEASE HELP!!!

I booted up my computer today and there was this Windows 8 icon in my notification area. I clicked it and then it said get windows 10 for free!! I know not to trust this stuff, but my antivirus (Avast) doesn't detect it!!!

HELP ME GET RID OF THIS VIRUS PLEASE!!!!!

This is not a virus. It is an update (KB3035583) that's causing this. The update is there to let people know that Windows 10 is a free upgrade.

It's great you know not to trust seemingly scam-y software like that, but this one is legit. You can delete the icon from your taskbar temporarily by going to the Task Manager (right click the taskbar then click Start Task Manager). Go to the Processes tab and look for "gwx.exe". Click that and then click End Process.
