Activation is showing as "Windows is activated using your organisation's activation service"

I am using Windows 10, Version 1909 (Updated recently). In Activation tab under Update & Security, it's showing that "Windows is activated using your organisation's activation service". but i do not belong to any organisation, this is my personal computer. But, it should come as "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your microsoft account" Please Help!...

Hi Harsha. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

What is the Activation Status and Edition showing at the top of the page at Settings > Update & Security > Activation?

Run the Activation Troubleshooter in the same location and report back its findings

That message normally means that someone has activated Windows with a Volume License Key meant only for business or organizations that activate a large number of PC's, which need to check in with the organization's server regularly to reactivate.

Sometimes this is done by shops or others reinstalling Windows unnecessarily because the PC either came with a Windows Product Key embedded in the BIOS/UEFI firmware, or it was already activated by free Upgrade or a retail Product Key, and would have reactivated after a reinstall had they given it the chance and not interrupted this by installing the illegal key.

If you know Windows was originally activated legitimately by one of these methods then to fix the problem what I would do is go offline to remove the Volume License key and then restore the Generic Product Key that is used to activate with the Digital License issued by Upgrade or Factory install, the factory key embedded in the UEFI/BIOS firmware chip, or the retail key you used. Then we'll see if it activates:

1) Go offline by opening Action center at the right end of Task Bar, then clicking on Airplane mode to turn off internet.

2) Next type CMD in Start Search, right click to Run as Administrator, then right click to copy and paste this command in and press Enter: slmgr -upk

3) Restart PC and then insert Generic Product Key for your licensed version from here: http://winaero.com/blog/generic-key-to-install-...

This sets everything back to default so that if there is a Digital License issued during a proper Upgrade it should reactivate within a few days. If not we will need to try something else:

If it doesn't activate after going online and you originally had factory installed Windows, read the Product Key embedded in the UEFI firmware chip at the factory by running ProducKey: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/produkey-x64.zip, copy and paste the OEM-BIOS key (only) into Settings> Update & Security > Activation.

If you were sold a Volume license product key or the PC came from seller activated with one, then It is piracy when someone resells Windows with no way to legally activate it. You can report this to Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/cfr/r.... In the past when victims cooperated with an investigation they would sometimes give them a free copy as thanks.

You can also contact the seller and let him/her know you are taking these actions and that they need to make the activation good. Many will comply rather than risk investigation or prosecution.

For further assistance restoring the original legal activation you can contact Microsoft Support phone or chat options here: https://partner.support.services.microsoft.com/...

I hope having all possible options helps.

Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

One of two things happened - and either way, you've been scammed.

Your copy of Windows has a Volume license, which is not available to individuals. It's available only to organizations that order Windows licenses in quantity and operate their own activation server. If a Volume-licensed copy of Windows isn't in regular contact with the organization's activation server, it loses its activation.

Your computer was activated with a stolen Volume license:

1- by whomever sold you the computer, or

2- by whomever recently repaired your computer.

No, it only means that your Windows 10 license is not legitimate.

When you purchase a computer directly from the manufacturer or from an authorized retailer, your copy of Windows has an OEM license. That's a valid license.

When you build a computer on your own and purchase Windows separately, to install on your computer, your copy of Windows has a Retail license. That's a valid license.

To see what type of license you have, use these steps:

1- Start > Windows System > Command Prompt (right-click) > Run as Administrator

2- Enter the password to an Administrators account if prompted

3- Type this command (or copy and paste):

slmgr /dli

4- Press the Enter key.

Here's my result:

If the seller originally delivered the computer to you with a Volume license, complain to them. (Good luck.)

If a repair shop that recently repaired your computer returned the computer to you with a Volume license, complain to them.

The most likely outcome, unfortunately, is that you will have to pay for a Windows license and install it on your computer. In that case, do yourself a favor: Buy the license from Microsoft, so you know it's 100% legitimate.

How was Windows originally activated on your PC?

Since the illegal Volume License key usually gets installed by shops or others to Upgrade to Pro, are you sure the license isn't for Home?

I'm assuming you ran ProducKey because the PC came with preinstalled Windows 10. That is almost always Home version. Did you find an OEM-BIOS key. As I wrote, only the OEM-BIOS key is the key embedded at the factory.

If this was free Upgrade then it needs to have the Generic Version key copied and pasted into the Activation settings, as I also wrote clearly. But if this licensed version is Home, it will never activate with Pro installed.

So if you had Home version license, and someone illegally installed a Volume business key to upgrade to Pro, then you'll need to reinstall Home version. See here how to do a Clean install: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

There is also a workaround here that others report is working to change Pro to Home:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

Back in morning.
