Windows 10 - Can't Open Apps From Search Bar

I'm having a weird problem with Windows 10 that's only happened recently.

Whenever I use the search bar at the bottom to open an App, it won't work. I'll click on it, but it won't open.

It doesn't matter what I search for (iTunes, Defrag and Optimize Disks, Command Prompt, Control Panel), the app will not open when I click on it in the search bar results.

If I look for the app individually in the list of every app, it'll work just fine. Only when I search for and click to open the app does it not work.

If I use the search bar to look for a folder, it'll open it up right away. Same thing if I wanna open up the Windows Store the same way.

The problem seems to only be when I search for and try to open a Desktop app of any kind.

I ran an SFC scan in command prompt, but this didn't fix anything.

Anyone have an idea what it might be? I'm stumped.

Hi Ikesyay,

It must be unfortunate that you are still facing the same issue. Let me help you.

  • What is the exact error message that you have received after performing SFC Scan?

If you have found any corrupted files after running SFC Scan and if it is not automatically repaired, I suggest you to go through the below article and refer through the section How to manually replace a corrupted system file with a known good copy of the file and see if it helps.

Click on, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

Please keep us posted on the issue. We will be happy to assist you accordingly.

Thank you.

I decided to use the restore feature and clean install, since i have windows on a stand alone partition and all personal data stored elsewhere. 1 hour later everything run smooth again. I'm going to assume it was corrupted system files probably from a win update that didn't install correctly. early adapter to win 10 so I'm sure many more bug in the future. Thank you for responses, you can count this one resolved.

I resolved this problem by setting a default keyboard language to English (US).

It is related to another problem described here:

I have the same problem and none of the solutions posted here worked so far.

Has anyone found the solution to this problem? I'd really like to avoid having to reset everything.
