How to turn off Cortana's popup notifications

I don't want to use this program, and I certainly don't want it constantly asking me things like if it should handle my calendar for me. And it asks with popups that block the screen so I can't see the work I'm doing, or it interrupts presentations I'm trying to give. When I got the computer, I said during setup that I didn't want to use Cortana. Why does it keep asking? Why does it keep asking intrusively? Why would someone think popups soliciting me to use a program I've declined to use is a good idea? Why use popups at all? Most of us actually want to use our computers, which generally means having access to the screen. HOW DO I TURN CORTANA NOTIFICATIONS AND SOLICITATIONS OFF?

I do not use Cortana.  Right click the taskbar, arrow to Cortana and click on Hidden when it shows.

Thank you for your quick reply. I should have mentioned I have it hidden. All its app permissions are off. I declined to use it when I set up my computer. And yet it really, really wants to be used. Thanks anyway.

Have you looked in Settings, System, Notifications & actions and turned off Cortana?

Hi Brad,

That's a lot of work just to stop getting pop-ups, I have to say (in case anyone from Microsoft is listening; this isn't directed at you). I would have been fine with just turning it off in the ways I tried: Declining to use it when I set up, setting its taskbar status to Hidden, and denying it app permissions. At that point, the message should be clear and it should stop being intrusive.

I believe the problem is solved, however, as Cortana has a setting in Notifications, as it turns out. I didn't think to look there, as notifications typically refer to things like reminders and Skype calls, and not programs asking to be used. Live and learn.

I sincerely appreciate your quick response, and though I've been touching the registry before I was supposed to, I'm always glad when I don't have to. I'll be back to let you know if I have to go that step further.

Thanks much.
