Windows update KB3189866 Stuck at 45%

Hi all,

Noticed today there is a KB3189866 update stuck at 45% for a few hours, and I have tried everything to get it going.

Basically,

Tried the Windows update Trouble shooter, and it found no issues,

as well as , check if the Windows update service is running. Refer to these steps:

  1. Press Windows key +R, type  services.msc
  2. Locate the Windows update service and check if it is running.
  3. Double click on the service, click on Stop and Start the service again, also check if the Startup type is set to Automatic.

including the script on this page, which basically resets windows update :

Any ideas what I can try next? I really don't want to reset this pc. Too much software to reinstall. :(

Thank you!

Answer

Hi,

Visit the Microsoft Update Catalog with the follwing URL:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=KB3189866

(the use of IE is required)

Download the appropriate update for your OS version and install it manually. Once completed you'll be prompted to restart. Afterward, run Windows Update again and you'll see your Update status changed to "Your device is up to date".
