windows update fails and keeps downloading

The Windows 10 cumulative update below keeps downloading and failing to install.  It's done this 15 or 20 times now and has used up my internet bandwidth.  Is there any way to fix this?

2017-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4022715)

I've recently clean installed Windows 10 and have tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter several times and it fixes something but hasn't resolved the problem.  I've even tried the show/hide update utility to suppress installing it but I see that Update is again downloading it right now.  I've tried downloading the file and installing it manually but it still fails.

I've also tried doing another clean install but now it almost completes the install and gives an error and returns Windows to its previous state.  I tried installing from the downloaded Windows 10 ISO and it still does this.

So I can't do a clean install anymore or suppress the repeated downloading of this update.

Hi,

For us to better assist with your concern regarding an update, we'd like to ask for additional information. Please answer the following:

  • Aside from the update failing, are you also getting an error message or code when the update fails?
  • Does the issue only happen when installing the KB4022715 update?
  • What is the make and model of your device?

We hope to hear from you soon.

There is no error code.  It just says "failed to install on (date)".

It's only this update that this happens with.

I'm using Windows 10 Home Edition on an HP Pavilion notebook that is a little over a year old.

Downloaded it and tried to install it manually but it didn't work.  Same as when Windows Update does it.

Nope.  Didn't work.  The update still won't install.  Doesn't give an error either.  Just says updates were not installed.

Okay let us dig in a bit more.

Let us check the system Files. To do this do both of these:

  • Perform System File Check (SFC)

Follow the steps:

a. Press “Windows Key" to open Start menu

b. Type cmd without quotes in the search box.

c. On the left pane, right click on the “cmd” option and select “Run as Administrator”.

d. Type sfc /scannow’ without quotes and hit enter.

  •  run the System update readiness command. It detects incorrect manifests, cabinets or registry data, it may replace the incorrect data with corrected version available. Follow the steps.
  1. Open Command Prompt as indicated above.
  2. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press Enter key after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter

Reply back with the results would be happy to help.

sfc /scannow gets about 27% through and stops stating that it could not perform the requested operation.  This happens in safe mode too.

Me too. Cumulative updates haven't been able to install since March 2017. Tried everything on this site. Have a year old Dell XPS.
