windows 10, version 1703 - Error 0x800f081f + windows 10, version 1709 - Error 0x8007007e

The latest public release is Version 1709 build 16299.248

Download the Media Creation Tool and upgrade.

went to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and pressed the [download tool now] button

saved the MediaCreationTool.exe and ran it

error message appeared as follows

There was a problem downloading some files
We weren't able to download all of the necessary files. Check to make sure you're connected to the internet and try running the tool again. Error code: 0x80072EE2 - 0x20000

will retry and advise outcome

Windows 10 setup has appeared in a new window

accepted terms

selected option 1 upgrade this pc now

it is now running

does this mean that this tool will need to be run regularly or will the auto-update be able to continue after running this tool once?

You should not need to unless you get things fouled up.

Updates will be found in Settings, Updates.

has taken most of the night but have now reached 

Installing windows 10
your PC will restart several time. this may take a while

will put on the kettle and advise if further problems

There is a problem running this tool
We're not sure what happened, but we're unable to run this tool on your PC. If you continue experiencing problems, reference the error code when contacting customer support. Error code: 0x80070005 - 0xB0003

We are experiencing an issue affecting some user’s from upgrading Windows 10 1607/1703 to 1709. We are aware of the issue and working to resolve it quickly.

In the meantime, we recommend that you follow the on-screen instructions provided on this support link on how to temporarily prevent Windows from installing updates.

We'll post on this thread once we have an update.
