Windows 10 update issue - 1709, 16299.1087 to 1909

Im having a issue with my Windows update, when I try to update my PC via Windows update it gives me error 0x80246008, I tried many steps including checking hard drive, adding registry keys, clearing Software Distribution folder etc. When I tried to update my PC via iso file with 1909 it gave message that I had insufficient disk space to update even though there is over 120GB of space left on HD.

As I have seen that someone else had similar issue I am attaching my logs.

Also I would like to ask if reverting to 1703 could help with my issue.

Hi klimau,
I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 3 year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

Looks to be a space issue.

Sufficient, thanks.

It appears that, your recovery drive is too small - the first drive should be at least 1GB.

See if you can increase the size of it using a freeware like this:

https://www.diskpart.com/download-home.html

You may have to shrink the size of the second partition.

Out of curiosity I am asking, Is the size of the disk 2 1491 GB or 14.91 GB?

Sumit is probably correct regarding your drive space.  With a 1 TB drive and only 14% available, it may be having problems.  The recovery tools are or were in the C partition.   Sorry, they are in the last partition.  Those are normally around 600-800 MBs..

You are working with a Legacy install so the drive can only have 4 primary partitions.  If the Install can't put the Recovery Tools anywhere else, it will put it in the OS partition.

The install is trying to maintain the Win 8.x PBR image..

I will do a more thorough check of your log, but your Internet seems to be terrible.  It is marked as a metered connection and keeps trying to download but is unable..  You might try disabling the look for updates option.

Making partition bigger unfortunately didn't work.

Partition 4 is now over 4GB, I will try to make it bigger and try then.

The log with error looks the same.

Unfortunately that is true, but I had no issues before.

It keeps trying to download but it always shows 0x80246008 error, that is why I tried using iso file for update but it doesn't work as well.

Anyway, I very much appreciate your help, it means a lot.

edit: when I look at update history, it shows me different error, now 0x80240034

Your log is very short so not much is being done.

Regarding the Win 8.x PBR image, I see from the reagentc command, that image is showing as being in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft folder..  It would normally be in one of the large Recovery partitions..  I have to wonder if the upgrade, this one or a prior one, set that up.  Is this causing problems for the upgrade, I don't know..

In some circumstances, the install can fail but not give signs that it has.  Some errors might be related to the system trying to recover..

If you know of problems with you internet connection, can those be taken care of?  Seeing errors like the ones below may be involved..

Error                 CONX   Windows::Compat::Appraiser::Utilities::SendRequest (1374):   Failed to connect to the internet or send request: [12007].[gle=0x80072ee7]

The 0x8024xxxx type errors you get seem to be related to Windows updates..
