Windows 10 update freeze

Every time I try to update my windows 10 it will start the update then freeze at 71%. I've tried to update it at least 10-15 times now, and every time it will always freeze at 71%. Does anyone know how I can fix it so I can update it?

My laptop runs perfectly fine but freeze at 71% when it's trying to update windows 10. I've tried crtl/alt/delete when it freeze but nothing works. I've left my computer on all night to see if it would start up again but it's completely frozen. I have to hold the power button to turn it off.

Hello,

To address you concern, there are multiple causes on why updates would stop from downloading. You may check this link for instructions on how to run Windows Update Troubleshooter and choose the link that is appropriate with your OS version.

Regards.

When ever I try to update my windows 10, it will get to 74% it stops and says "we couldn't complete the updates undoing changes don't turn off computer" [SOURCE]

Answer-by-number:

1. Did the computer come with Win10 preinstalled, did you do a clean install of Win10, or did you upgrade a Win7 computer or a Win8.1 computer [<=PICK ONE!] to Win10?

2. Who manufactured the computer (e.g., Dell; HP; Acer; Lenovo; ASUS)?

3. Has a Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?

4. Have you ever run the Norton Removal Tool and/or the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool?

5. What Version & OS Build of Windows 10 is currently installed?

  • Press & hold the Windows Key and press the R key. In the RUN dialog, type WINVER and press the Enter key.

Assuming Windows 10 64-bit...

Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting this post:

1. When (approx. date) did you purchase the Samsung computer?

2a. When (exact date, preferably) did you upgrade to Win10?

2b. Was the upgrade to Windows 10 (not Windows 10 Anniversary Update or Creators Update) offered & installed via Windows Update or did you choose to upgrade manually?

3. What is the full name of your currently installed McAfee application (e.g., McAfee LiveSafe) and when (exact date, preferably) does your current subscription expirer or auto-renew?

4. In File Explorer [WinKey+E], navigate to & right-click on:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee <=this folder

Select PROPERTIES: What's the CREATED date displayed on the resulting GENERAL tab?

5a. When (approx. date) was the last time you ran the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool?

5b. ...the Norton Removal Tool?

  • Fact: McAfee and Norton applications are notorious for not upgradeing (or uninstalling) cleanly. The "leftovers" may be your troublemaker here.

6. When (exact date) was KB4015219 installed according to Installed Updates (not Update History)? [1]

7. Is Adobe Flash Player version 25.0.0.148 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER OR EDGE ONLY! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

8. Is Firefox version 53 (or higher) and/or Google Chrome version 58 (or higher) or any other alternate browser installed?

9. Are you in the habit of using "Registry cleaners" (e.g., CCleaner's Registry Cleaner component; Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Total System Care; Advanced System Optimizer; Comodo System Cleaner; Glary Utilities; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; AVG Quick CleanAVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; Norton PC Tuneup; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; FixMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Wise Care 365; Wise Cleaner; etc.)?

1. I bought it in 2015.

2a. I installed when microsoft first let you install it for free.

2b. It was offered to me for free from microsoft, so I chose to upgrade.

3. It is McAfee Security Scan Plus. It is free. So it is just a scanner not an actually virus remover. So I don't have a virus remover. Sorry for the confusion.

4. McAfee Security Scan was created 11/22/2015.

5a. Sorry I have never used the McAfee remover.

5b. Norton was never used in the time I had it.

6. It was installed today 4/22/2017 according to Installed Updates.

7. Yes version 25,0,0,148 is installed.

8. Yes I have firefox version 53 and I have google chrome version 58.

9. No I have never used anything like that.

Image

4. Has Windows 10 Anniversary Update and/or Windows 10 Creators Update (both are "Feature" updates) ever been offered to your computer via Windows Update?

5a. You installed a Norton application but never used it, is that correct?

5b. What was the name of the Norton application?

6. What Version & OS Build of Windows 10 is currently installed (i.e., on 13 May 2017)?

  • Press & hold the Windows Key and press the R key. In the RUN dialog, type WINVER and press the Enter key.

COMMENT: Chances are your Samsung computer came with a Norton or a McAfee free-trial preinstall. Doesn't matter if you never used it.
