This is already a thread at the top of the Windows 10 forum. Submitted 6 Oct.

It is similar but the scope of discussion of that post is to explain why update is no longer being offer.

However, this discussion is mainly for understand who is facing problem with data lost and help them to fix it.

You don't need to do anything, the update is already paused by Microsoft and if you check for update it no longer being offered. Microsoft will release update again once it has been fixed. If anyone is checking for update, they won't get this update and this is for those who already installed it and are facing problems.

Looks like there is a blog with more details explaining problem:

Thank you for sharing the weblog, it is the latest update and basically Microsoft finds the root cause of the problem and released the fix for Windows Insiders , however for general Windows users , you have to wait for final testing and once everything has been confirmed, you will get the update.

However, if anyone already affected with the file missing issue, make sure contact Microsoft support and let us know, if you are facing any problems.

so yesterday windows asked if I wanted to restart and update and I said no fearing that my files

would be deleted. you said "you will only get update when issue has been fixed" so does this mean its ok to install the update now

I've installed the update today, my Fonts have changed in Email/Chat Clients AND my emails in Outlook are unreadable!!!

I've restarted but no difference. What can I do please?

I've updated today after seeing that MS had fixed the issues. But I have problems (see my comment below), so I suggest that you wait a couple of days.
