Win 10 app blank AND win 10 install blank GUI - SOLVED! (see my reply)

hello all

win 7 x64 home premium uses, i5 750, 8Gb Ram, ASRock p55M board

signed up for upgrade, my win 10 app has been blank all along-  have tried all the suggested fixes, uninistalling then reinstalling the KB, running the Mcaffee unistaller etc, deleting softwareupgrade/download contents and running wuauclt.exe/updatenow in cmd etc etc... nothing worked

so went to win 10 download page, tried d/l and upgrading and then d/l to usb and booting from that, and each time get to 'choose what to keep' or whatever the title is screen, which immediately goes without letting me choose anything, then goes to updates, then finally to a blank screen

with no info - ie another unpopulated screen

i can't believe these two things are unrelated?

1. if anyone has a solution, wow

2. i'm assuming some conflict somewhere but can't run compatability check as that runs from the win 10 app which doesn't work

3. have downloaded numerous versions of the media create tool and the data. also deleted the $BT folders between attempts

i don't want to have to reinstall win 7 and/or win10 totally if i can help it as I have a lot of music software (Sonar, Kontakt, Sampletank etc) which are serious gigs and reinstall will take days...

Hi,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community.

I appreciate you for providing us the screenshots.

Please re-run compatibility appraiser and check if it helps. Please follow these steps:

a. Open command prompt(with administrator privileges).

b. Type the following command in command prompt and press Enter.

schtasks.exe /Run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser

Once started, it may take 10 minutes or so for the appraiser to complete. Once complete, re-open the Get Windows 10 app and it will have the updated compatibility information and check if it helps:.

um, so the reply from Divya M wasn't the comment that I replied to originally, you guys changed it?

and that reply was a lotless helpful, cos trying to get me to rerun something within the Win 10 app which doesn't work is a bit dumb.

i have seen another piece from you tech guys which seems to say that USB install won't work either and to try an ISO, so doing that now...

if this is no dice will wait til the dust settles and get some proper tech help

OK so I got my upgrade - here's how:

my win update (via cmd wuauclt.exe/update now) failed - the error code from that led me to download and run this:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=20858

the system update readiness tool

after the massive (500mb) d/l it installed a single hotfix.

after this I erased the contents of the software download folder then restarted windows, disabled my anti-virus and then reran the above cmd prompt

and lo and behold it worked!

so for where the update process is failing on win 7, this is worth a try!
