"There was a problem resetting your pc"

While resetting, (when it reaches 57%) a blue screen like the "Advanced startup" comes up and then upon continuing to Windows 10, a message pops up saying -"There was a problem resetting your pc, no changes were made". The same thing happens with "Fresh Start" (or refreshing your pc).

I've tried nearly all the ways(on the internet) but I'm unable to resolve the problem.

Please help!

Hi Kunal

Since that reset operation is not completing the next best option is to try to refresh WIndows 10 . . .

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Update and Security - Recovery

At the bottom of that page, click the 'Learn how to start fresh with a clean installation of WIndows . . .

Then click 'Get Started' to begin the process . . .

Thanks for replying so fast!

Sorry, I forgot to mention this earlier, but the same thing happens with "refresh" (It gets stuck at 57% - "Windows was unable to refresh your pc, no changes were made")

Hi Kunal

If the Reset and Refresh options are not working for you, then your recovery image is corrupt ....

Your best option in this case, is to backup your files and perform a full clean install of WIndows 10, which will also create a new recovery Image

Hi , you can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

Click this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

Thanks, that's what I'm doing right now (hope that it does not get stuck in the middle).

Also, it'll fix the recovery image?

Great!

Yes, clean installing WIndows 10 will create a new Recovery image, so a reset or refresh will work in the future, should you need it . .

Hello,

I have the same issue and will probably try this fresh installing of Windows 10 via USB as well.

However, I have one question I'd like to ask before I try: will my folders/files be affected?

When I attempted the re-installing of Windows 10 normally, it gave me the option to either reset my PC without affecting my files/folders or to reset everything including removing files. I'm not sure if I'll have any options like this with a fresh install.

Thanks!

Tanner

Hi Dave,

Am I right in thinking that if I already have win10 on this machine, I can just download the installer and run it from this machine without having to put it onto a USB drive? I don't have one (a usb drive) and am on lockdown at the moment.  the instructions seem to say to select 'upgrade now' if you have already got win10 on the machine and are reinstalling it.

Thx

J

I've tried installing windows 10 from a USB and even that doesn't work.

What more can I possibly do?
