Reset this PC not working on Windows 10?

As the title says, I'm trying to reset my PC but the recovery option doesn't seem to be working.

I go to the Reset this PC option in Update & Security, and press 'Get started' but all I see is the loading symbol next to my mouse for a second, and then nothing. I've tried resetting using Advanced startup, but that doesn't seem to work either.

I have tried restarting and using clean boots, but this didn't seem to help at all.
Can anyone help?

Hi Cameron,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand how frustrating it is when things doesn’t work at times.

To Troubleshoot no boot situation, follow the below steps:

Step 1:

I would suggest you to download an ISO image of Windows 10 and try to install again using the Media Creation tool.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Installation Media tool:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

Once the bootable media is created, follow next step:

Step 2: Perform Start up Repair.

Follow the steps mentioned below to perform Start up Repair:
       a. Insert the installation DVD or USB and boot Windows 10 from it.
       b. Select “Troubleshooting” from the first Window and then select “Advance Options”.
       c. Then select “Automatic Repair” from “Advanced options” window.

This will help you to boot into your Operating system again.

I am all of a sudden having the same issue. Regardless of running from hard drive or installation disk, reset PC doesn't work. I also cannot launch the MS Store, nor any MS Office 2013 apps. I get a pop up that says "The remote procedure call failed".

  2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.
  3. Search for Remote Procedure Call locator service.
  4. Double click on Remote Procedure Call locator service and click on Start button.
  5. Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to Automatic.

I am having the same problem. It started with a malware / virus issue. The virus shut down all my anti-virus software and would not let anything even remotely close to anti-virus / anti-malware install.

I managed to remove the virus, some of it by hand, but then I noticed that some of the symptoms stayed. Most notably anti-virus programs not installing or running. I can run all of them in safe mode, but they fail in safe mode with networking or diagnostic start. Also, those that would not install could be installed in safe mode (after turning on the installer service).

I finally got windows defender working and it removed a threat (twice) but the problem remained. Prowess.D

I tried doing the reset your pc option but have the same symptoms of the little circle going for about 1 second then everything stopping. I can not find anything in the event viewer to indicate why it failed. I also tried repairing from a USB stick, but no luck.

I have run all the suggestions here, and a bunch from elsewhere, but again to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi...

I tried factory resetting my laptop, but after the initial preperation, it seems that I accidently restarted my laptop, and now an error is showing up that "The computer restarted or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." I don't know what to do next. Every time I press ok, the error continuously keeps popping up. Please get back to me as soon as possible.

Thanks.
