No restore point - Windows 10 anniversary update system froze

I had upgraded to the anniversary update of Windows 10 yesterday night(14th Oct 2016).
After installing that, my system started successfully for the 1st time.
But it was damn slow and the system showed me that I have very less space remaining, which is making my system run slow.
So, it asked, do I want to clear my previous versions of windows.
I did, YES.
Since then, whenever I am trying to start my system, the desktop gets loaded, but I can't do anything after that, as my screen is frozen.
I have tried restarting it in
safe mode (it dint start in safe mode), startup repair (was not useful),
system restore ( there were no restore points, as older versions were deleted).

I went through the forums, and everywhere it says to go back to older restore points/windows versions, which i cannot.

Can you please suggest what can I do now, to get the system running at least.
I have important data in the laptop's hard-disk, which I cannot afford to lose.

Thanks for your help !
