Migrating Files To New PC. Windows 10

My current PC has recently been upgraded  from windows 7 to 10. I am buying a brand new PC with windows 10 and need to transfer all my files in their folder structure to the new PC. I have backups on external hard drives and have recently backed up with  File History.

Can I simply use File History on the new PC to bring back the files from the external drive?

Appreciate any advice as I know from experience that losing files is all too easy.

Use the Windows 7 Backup (System Image Backup)

To clone your files for transfer.

Yes, you have this option still in Windows 10

Right click and save the image above to your PC desktop if the image is too small for you to read.

Once you have downloaded it you can vary its size. Or simply click the three dots in the toolbar and select the "zoom" function.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I don't understand system image properly but doesn't it include all you programs etc.?

My new PC will be set up with a windows 10 disk, no bloatware, clean install.

I absolutely only want the files from the old PC. Can this be done with File History?

One strange thing about file history. I've just used it for the first time and Its backup on an external disk differs numerically from my PC............

It reads:

404GB,  65117 files and 1799 folders.

whereas the user file in explorer on the PC shows:

401 GB, 77715 files and 4760 folders.

Any idea why these should differ?

Thanks again Cass.

I'm already backing up my data using File History I need to know whether this is a safe option for restoring the same files on my new PC when it arrives next week.

Any Microsoft experts out there? All advise is warmly welcomed (I need it).
