Microsoft wants to know - Anyone seeing issues with the April updates KB3147461 and KB3147458?

Hi folks!

It's Patch Tuesday again, and I thought I'd drop by with a request for help. If you're seeing any issues with the April updates (KB3147461 if you have the original version of Windows 10 and KB3147458 if you have the November Update installed) I'd like to hear about them.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for the next few days, so if you're seeing problems please post a reply and let me know.

Thanks in advance!

my husband's surface was doing a Windows 10 automatic update last night - tonight he cannot open anything - it's like it wiped out the whole operating system.  HELP!

Can you describe specifically what's happening? Thanks!

Did the update this afternoon.  I have quite a few issues.  I am running an Acer laptop which was purchased in January that came loaded with Windows 10.

  • The Start button now acts as a way to bounce between the Desktop and the current app when using the left click.

  • The Start button works properly when right clicked.

  • Lost all Desktop Icons.

  • Bottom tool bar had "Notification" Icons deselected.

  • My Apps are now located on my Desktop.

  • I now have a Power Button on my Desktop, an Application "button" on my Desktop on the lower left & the start functionality "button" on the upper left of my Desktop.

  • I have lost the ability to "Minimize / Expand" all applications / programs.

  • I have lost all ability to run apps "side by side", "stacked on top of each other", etc.

  • Right Click on Desktop does nothing at all.

I am sure there are many more issue, but this is what I have noticed as of 7pm the evening of April 13th.

This is easily, by far, the worst update I have encountered.  Please help.

It sounds like you're in Tablet Mode. Click the little icon on the bottom right that brings up notifications, and if Tablet Mode is on, turn it off. Let me know if that helps. Thanks!

Sounds similar to the previous poster's complaint, and hopefully the same solution (once we can find it.) Thanks.

The state when I made that post:

  • Windows 10 Pro installed last fall as an upgrade from Windows 7 Pro.
  • Unusable after KB3147458 installed.
  • System Restore to day before uninstalled KB3147458.  Computer was still unsuable.
  • Restarting the computer had reinstalled KB3147458.
  • Restarting again something failed to install, but KB3147458 was still installed.
  • Attempted further back System Restore, but it failed with error 0x80070002.
  • Tried disabling other programs, but nothing changed.
  • In Safe Mode we manually uninstalled KB3147458 and deleted the downloaded files so it couldn't reinstall, but the computer was still unusable.
  • This is the point at which the CBS logs AmiYuy.zip are from.

The current state of my computer:

  • Around 7PM last night I RESET Windows while keeping my files because it was impossible to use.
  • KB3147458 is currently installed.
  • It worked fine until 1PM today.
  • Around 1:10 PM I was using Firefox and the computer shut itself down (sudden drop to back screen and off) and restarted.
  • There were no errors in the Event Viewer to tell me what happened, just that it had.  No new Updates either.
  • This is the point at which the CBS logs AmiYuy2.zip are from.

After my Surface (Win 10) installed KB3147458 yesterday, today none of my Office 365 (Office 16) programmes would start (except Outlook was ok).  So Word, Excel etc just sat there 'starting' or trying to start in safe mode but never getting anywhere.  I just uninstalled KB314758 and they all work again fine (initially with Word in Safe Mode).  So what next?

After installing the Update KB3147458 on Windows 10 I get the error:

Cannot complete install. Undoing changes

I have tried several times to install this update, always the same error message.

What can I do?

Please send me log files from c:\windows\logs\CBS. Instructions are in one of my recent posts. :-) Thanks!
