KB4054517 (OS Build 16299.125) prevents text from printing

Hello,

My Windows 10 PC recently updated itself to OS Build 16299.125 (update KB4054517).

After this update both of my Epson printers no longer print text (Epson Stylus DX4800 and Epson Stylus Photo PX720WD). They are using the latest drivers. I have also tried removing and adding them again within the Windows control panel. Images, and images within a document print out fine, but text does not show in the print preview and also does not physically print out onto paper. This happens when printing from any source, webpage, word document, printer test page etc. I know the printers are working and do print text because I've printed to them directly from a Mac.

If I uninstall update KB4054517, printing works again and I can print normally (text and images).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ross

Many users are reporting issues with this update, I recommend you uninstall and block it until further notice:

Press Windows key + R
Type: appwiz.cpl
Hit Enter
Click View installed updates
Select the recent update
(This is the update you want to uninstall KB4054517

Right click it then click uninstall.

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?
Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

After downloading, launch it, click Next, wait while it detects pending Windows Updates.

Click the Hide Updates menu.

Scroll through the list then select then select the update. Check the box next to the update then click Next to confirm changes.

Thanks Andre Da Costa. After I uninstalled the update the PC restarted itself last night and reinstalled the update, and printing now seems to be working. It looks like a uninstall and reinstall of KB4054517 fixed it.

Thanks for your feedback.

Try reinstalling the Printer.
Right-click Start and select Run.
In the Run dialog box, type in control printers and press OK.
Locate your printer in the Printers section, Right click it and select Remove device.
Restart your PC.
If you have a setup media of the Printer driver(This is usually a CD or Setup program supplied with the Printer), run the utility and let the Printer Install.
If you do not have a setup media, try adding a printer manually using "add a printer" button in the menu bar. It should automatically detect and Install the Printer.
After the Printer Installs, try printing a test page to see if it works as desired.
Retry the task again.
