Error code 0xC0000005 when trying to install Windows 10 version 1709

I am using the link www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 to update the OS on my laptop from Windows 10 Pro version 1703 to version 1709.  This process worked just fine on my desktop computer but when I try it on my laptop, I click on Update Now button and it begins downloading the update as the percentage complete number increases.  However, somewhere during that process, I get the following message: "Something went wrong.  You can contact Microsoft Support for help on this problem.  Here is the error code: 0xC0000005."  Maybe I should I just wait until the 1709 update happens automatically?

If the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant becomes stuck or unresponsive at various percentages: 0%, 32%, 62%, 87%, 99%, please wait at least 4 to 7 hours. If you are updating through Windows Update, when the download reaches 99% disconnect from the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi then proceed with the installation.

If setup does not progress, close the wizard then restart your computer. Follow the instructions to upgrade manually using the Media Creation Tool or the Windows 10 ISO file.

Please answer ALL of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions by number, preferably without quoting my post:

1. When (approx. date) did you purchase the Notebook PC (laptop)?

2. Did the computer come with Win10 preinstalled, did you do a clean install of Win10, or did you upgrade a Win7 computer or a Win8.1 computer [<=PICK ONE!] to Win10?

3. Who manufactured the computer (e.g., Dell; HP; Acer; Lenovo; ASUS)?

4. Has a Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?

5. Have you ever run the Norton Removal Tool and/or the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool?

6. What Version & OS Build of Windows 10 is currently installed?

• Press & hold the Windows Key and press the R key. In the RUN dialog, type WINVER and press the Enter key.
