Windows 10 update "Microsoft - WPD - 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM - 5.2.5326.4762."

I received a notice to install this update.

Microsoft - WPD - 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM - 5.2.5326.4762.

The date is from over a year ago.

Is this for real, or am I about to break the Internet by installing it?

I just got the same update and wondered about it. It looks like a sound driver, but it would be nice to have more details, especially since it says it needs to update separately. Weird.

Same thing happened with me. At the time I was using my cell as a hot spot plugged into my laptop. After unplugging the USB cable and leaving the hot spot active I was able to get it to install. It seamed to be MTP setup / drivers for my cell phone.

I did a bit of reading and it is a Windows Portable Device driver that originally came out for Vista, Win 7 and Win 8, but seems to be required for lots of Windows 10 PCs depending on what removeable media/device you connect.

I did the update after seeing tons of posts from people who got the same notification, one who installed it and had no complaints.

I installed the update, it took less than 1 second and does not require a reboot. My PC still works as it should (so far) so I would deem this a harmless update, but just outright weird.

I'm sorry from Russia and I do not know much English!

I just ran blindly ahead and installed it.  I can confirm that it did not, in fact, break the internet.

Yes, weird!  Interesting everyone's portable device drivers need updated with (I presume) drivers from 2/22/2016.

I have updates set to download and install automatically, so why am I being told to select install now to start a separate installation.

Interesting it says  "We need to start...to complete this update"  Again I have to Presume We is Microsoft.

Probably okay as Andre said.  I think I will wait a day or two.

This update appears to be a Windows Portable Device (driver) update. When hovering above it, post installation, I get the information in the picture below (after a "windows could not install updates" error message.

If Microsoft want to keep serious computer users can I suggest they expand the more information option in windows update (pre-installation), as soon as possible, as this update did not follow the usual route to update completion making people feel that this could be a virus. I'll point you towards Linux Mint update descriptions and change-logs as the goal to aspire to.

I think it is connected to this. Does everyone who received have AMD processor?

The date is the way they date driver updates. They usually date them with the date of the last compatible version of windows because drivers use many different version numbering schema.

That being said I am not updating until I hear something official just in case.

Most people should set their updates not to update automatically.
