Windows 10 Keep creating new partition after a big update

I found this when I try to defrag my disk

You can see the \\?\Volume******** below, it's created after I update my W10 (big update)

And now..... I've already got 7 partition in my disk (C:\)

450MB/Partition, is it OK ? Nope.

Now, my W10 version is 1703 (Build: 16237.1001)

Could you give me a way to slove this problem?

Best regards.

Answer

Hi Brian,

The Windows Update service creates a partition if it finds that there is not enough space on your recovery partition or system reserved partition. This should not have created 7 partitions, however.

This is usually caused by a corrupt file or protocol that's causing it to create more partitions than necessary.  To prevent this from happening again, we suggest you perform an in-place upgrade.

This will effectively restore any corrupted or missing system files. After doing so, you should no longer have unnecessary recovery partitions. If not, let us know and we'll continue helping you.
