Stuck at "Preparing to install updates 25%" - Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586.

Method 1: Perform a Clean boot and try to update.

Perform a clean boot to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.

Note:  Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

If this doesn’t help, try Method 2.

Method 2: Reset the Windows Update Components

Tried method 1, but without internet connection there is no point updating..

Not sure if method 2 did anything, but..

..the update progress just started to make progress to 50% while I was about to give up (after many hrs)

This is the slowest update ever. I hope future updates will offer an improved experience.

Preparing to Install updates become very Slow From 23% Why 
It Takes 3 Hours 30 Minutes (From 23% to 27%) Why is it So???
from 27% to 32% very fast (Fast and Furious)
Now Again at 32% It becomes very slow
Can I disconnect my internet connection. If I disconnect my internet connection Will The Preparing to Install updates Speed Increment or Not ???
For Downloading 3 Gb (Windows 10 Home Single Language, Version 1511 Build 10586) It Takes Nearly 15 Hours

Hi Naga,

Understand the frustration. Mine eventually completed after about 4.5 hrs.

Windows  Update took 3 hrs to complete and then to my surprise the Windows Installation screen started after a reboot and here we went again: 1.5 hrs to finish. It's not busy MS servers: downloads went fine.

We will dread the moment Windows as a Service with forced upgrades will release new versions more than once a year.

What is "from 27% to 32% very fast (Fast and Furious)"? It had taken you 47 mins for that??

Yes, I Have Upgraded to Windows 10 Version 1511. Now I am currently using Windows 10 Build 10586.14 Version 1511. To download & install Windows 10 Version 1511 it took almost 32 Hours.

I have Asus notebook X555L with windows 8.1 and I get notification by GET WINDOWS 10 APP.So I upgrade my laptop to windows 10 . The download process continue over night and finished 100 % but it stuck on Preparing for install. I have read some posts about it and I have done two things 1) Disconnect network 2) Turn off antivirus protection.
and the process completed in few minutes.

My windows 10 Installed and still updating some apps and drivers
