KB4038806 Breaks Flash on IE 11

I have had problems with yesterday's KB4038806 update, which is supposed to "resolve vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player", actually breaks it on my system.

I've had to remove it.

Anyone else had such issues?

What did you remove and how did you remove it? Did the update "break" Edge, too?

Is it the same computer as in this other recent thread of yours? => https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfbook-surfperf/new-surface-book-pro-upgraded-firmware-still-will/e65d5d48-996f-48eb-8cd6-04fb51fbdb6b

I uninstalled KB4038806 and used the Microsoft Update Hide tool to keep it at bay.

It didn't appear to affect Edge at all.

That other post was not started by me; I only suggested that he try a DISM image repair to deal with his problem.

@NeilCameron1215 only! =>

Assuming Windows 10 64-bit...

Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting this post:

1. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer?

2. Did the computer come with Win10 preinstalled, did you do a clean install of Win10, or did you upgrade a Win7 computer or a Win8.1 computer [<=PICK ONE!] to Win10?

3. Who manufactured the computer (e.g., Dell; HP; Acer; Lenovo; ASUS)?

4. Has a Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?

5. Have you ever run the Norton Removal Tool and/or the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool?

6. What Version & OS Build of Windows 10 is currently installed?

  • Press & hold the Windows Key and press the R key. In the RUN dialog, type WINVER and press the Enter key.

7a. Open Internet Explorer (only! not Edge, not Firefox, not Chrome) to this page: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

7b. What Flash Player version is displayed in the VERSION INFORMATION box on that page?

8. Is Firefox version 55.0.3 (or higher) and/or Google Chrome version 61 (or higher) or any other alternate browser installed?

9. Are you in the habit of using "Registry cleaners" (e.g., CCleaner's Registry Cleaner component; Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Total System Care; Advanced System Optimizer; Comodo System Cleaner; Glary Utilities; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; AVG Quick CleanAVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; Norton PC Tuneup; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; FixMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Wise Care 365; Wise Cleaner; Bitdefender OneClick Optimizer; etc.)?

Thank you, I appreciate your detailed instructions but feel as the computer works fine before the update and after deletion of it there would be little point in going through with it.

You have a great day too ☺

My "detailed instructions" had nothing whatsoever to do with your computer.

If you have a problem or a question, please begin your own, new thread to avoid confusion.

I also removed KB4038806 and Flash is magically working again. (Dell Inspiron, Windows 10, IE 11, never had a problem running Flash before, until almost 2 weeks ago.)
