kb4038788 messed up edge browser

Hi, the lastest patch seems to have messed up Edge.

I get alot of errors all of a sudden in the event viewer.

Most sites i can reach, but a few specifically all of a sudden it will "stop working".

I've come across other forums with the exact same issues.

Mostly application error eventid 1000 the msedgeCP exe.

Some 5973 apps error.

Before the update very rarely i might find 1000 like twice a day, but never actually noticable while working with edge. (like in the event viewer it would say edge stopped working or was unresponsive due to some kind of content process error, but it would never actually crash or show anything onscreen, so small mystery)

Now as im typing this, all of sudden it will load in certain sites again, but this is still weird.

As the first thing i tried was to check the support info on the KB, and it wouldnt load.

A restart of the computer fixed it, but still loads of edge errors + edge has become kind of sluggish? like slow to respond when going from tab to tab? Its not super noticable, but definitely there.

As im not the only one reporting this exact same issue, i do hope MS is aware of it.

Additional information : i've ran several different scans like for example :  sfc scannow and that scan to check drive integrity.

Everything is 100% in order, so i dont think thats the isssue here?

So far two of my computers have the exact same problem and they have very different hardware.

Computer 1: Ryzen 5 1600X  with nVidia 1060 Single monitor

Computer 2: Intel i3 6100 with AMD 7750 6 monitors

I'm on an i7 5820k with an nvidia gtx980.

Guess that rules out driver issue, as thats sometimes the problem nowadays, (because there was also an adobe flash update, might be related)

For now, after that latest restart i mentioned, things seem to have.. fixed itself? i dont see any list of the same errors reported and everything seems to load up properly again.

I did notice at least 1 "failed to or cannot load /access? RPC" error in combination with all those edge errors, not entirely sure what the right translation would be. (im dutch :P) but you get the jist of it i hope.

The RPC error might.. just might explain a few things, like in the background of "things" the system or my account was still being signed in as it were for some reason or another.

Though on the other hand as far as i can tell, RPC errors usually is something you see when you are running a server, so not sure if it applies to a "normal" windows 10 home edition.

Yup - had to roll back.  Edge was unusable.  Particularly with Google sites which makes me wonder what the heck MS is doing.

Ditto on all that...

Since KB4038788 auto-installed (was pushed) onto them yesterday afternoon (9/12/2017), all three of my Windows-10/Pro systems have been experiencing Edge crashes, sluggish Edge performance, and Edge launching delays.

All three of these systems are pretty much useless for trying to use Edge, with all 3 constantly throwing ID:1000 errors into their respective System Application Logs.

I don't know about others with these issues, but I for one would really like to image-restore these systems back to earlier points in time before they had their KB4038788 encounters. Unfortunately there's not much point in doing that unless you Microsoft pull this botched KB4038788 off your Windows Update servers until such time as you can produce a less destructive version of KB4038788.

I also ran into a bunch of ESENT errors (as in non-stop with precisely 10 sec intervals), which in my humble opinion, seemed to relate to the update + windows defender updating itself twice in a row within a 10 minute span. (each with a new definition)

Where the settingsynchost couldnt read-only a file in a folder.. that doesnt even exist.

A problem dating back (for alot of people) to 2015.

Its not happened again since i rebooted last night and today a fresh cold start.

But im keeping an eye on it.

Edge is still crappy though, with the occassional hang ups (sometimes not even noticable like it continues anyway, but there will be an eventlog)

Like if im typing here, its slow/sluggish, thats new to me since the update.

Considering all the replies here so quickly one after the other, its clear to me the patch borked something up.
