Windows 10 "side-by-side"

Original title: Windows 10 desktop

Windows 10 will not allow me to show Windows "side-by-side".  I usually have two windows open.  With Windows 10, they do not resize so that each takes about 1/2 of the screen, rather they take about 1/3 each.  Today, both windows became very small as if I had about 8 open instead of only 2, and I had to manually resize them.  Can anyone offer a suggestion; it's annoying.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum. I will certainly help you with this.

Method 1:

Step 1: Change the resolution

  1. Press Windows key on the keyboard
  2. Click on System
  3. Go to Display
  4. Click on Advance display settings
  5. Change the resolution (1280x1024 recommended)

Step 2: Enable Show windows side by side

Make sure that you have at least two windows open.

  1. Then right-click anywhere on the taskbar and select Show windows side by side.
  2. The windows are resized according the number of windows to be displayed. You should note that windows that are minimized are not shown through this side by side interface.
  3. When you are done you can close the side by side interface. You can do this by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting Undo Show all windows side by side

Additional information : Applies to Windows 10 too.

  3. When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates.

Step 2: Follow the steps below to update the Bluetooth drivers.

  1. Press Windows + X key on the keyboard.
  2. Go to device manager.
  3. Right-click your display/graphic devices.

First of all, to what Windows version does this apply.

When I am using Windows 10, the recommended resolution is 1920 X 1080.  1280 X 1024 is not the appropriate resolution.

Furthermore, for years the side by side, stacked, and, cascade windows have been appropriate.

Whenever I request side by side, Windows 10 stacks them on the left side, leaving about 4/5ths of the desktop open.

I'm seeing many users wondering why the change.

Thanks for the reply, Isha; but my monitor will not accept that resolution.  1600 x 900 is the recommended resolution.

The feature is not really broken.   (There is a proof at the end)

Here is why:

When you select show windows Side by Side it shows you all of the windows that are not minimized so you may select which two you want to view side by side:

Pick one and drag it to the right side of the screen

Click somewhere on the screen.

Pick another and drag it to the left side of the screen.

Now you have 2 windows displayed side by side.

The function has been changed and steps added, but it would seem this is to include further functionality.  (You can pick and choose your windows and have more than two open and even full screen)

Life is change, we can either roll with it... or become jaded.  This is not worth getting overly upset about.  It is unfortunate that many of us did not know this or where to find the info.

Proof of Point Example:

(Try this, open four windows. Make two full screen and two viewable but not full screen.

Select view windows side by side.  (all windows seem to become tiled.)

Select one window and drag it to the right. (Leave at least one full size window alone)

Click and  empty space on the screen and then

Select another window and drag it to the left.  (Leave at least one full size window alone)

Notice the windows you have chosen are side by side

Now you have windows side by side.

HOLD ON, there is more.

Now on the task bar, select one of the fully expanded windows.

You see the window is fully expanded again.

POINT:  You can have 10 windows open,  select two to view side by side, then the rest should keep their original view settings BEFORE you decided to view two side by side.

I hope that someone will hit  "answer" to put this to rest for over 11K people.

According to your suggestions, this would require 3 clicks to tile 2 windows side-by-side.  1) Select Show windows side-by-side on the Taskbar, 2) Pick one and drag it to the right side of the screen, 3) Pick another and drag it to the left side of the screen.

Yes, "Life is change, we can either roll with it... or become jaded."  However, how is it this a better option for displaying two tiled windows than 1) right clicking on the Taskbar, 2) then selecting Show windows side-by-side?  Progress is sometime not better.

Please fix the Right click Taskbar, Tile windows side-by-side feature.

Found this info for a Windows 7 problem - works in Windows 10.

When you want to pin it into 1/2's, click on the window you want where then use the Windows key and the --> or <-- arrows on your keyboard it will allow them to "snap" to the portions of the screens you would like.

This will work when you run 2 screens too.

Not a big fan of the Windows 10 setup. Side by side was so good!
