Text size within Apps in Windows 10 too small

Hello Community,

I was having difficulty reading the text when I upgraded to Windows 10. I decided to change the display and more specifically the text size. I went to Settings>Personalization. In the Display section I increased the slider to 125%. I signed out to set the settings. Most of the application within Windows changed size (Desktop, Firefox, Start Menu, File Explorer etc.)

Unfortunately the text size in my Apps such as Facebook, Rdio, actually got smaller!!

I tried experimenting with Custom Scaling in the Control Panel in Appearance and Personalization, however I still couldn't increase the text size in my Apps.

Here are a couple of screenshots to emphasize the difference in scale between 2 windows.

1. Rdio App

2. Control Panel screenshot

You can see the difference in text size. I realize that I can press CTRL + to zoom in but this upset the calibration within the window. Also CTRL + doesn't work in the Facebook app.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this??

I have exactly the same issue. My display is 11.6" and 1366x768 res. If I re-scale to 125%, desktop and regular apps look much better, but metro or modern apps elements are even smaller. I tried to re-scale to 130% and it works. I actually fixes the modern apps. However, by doing this, I lost the ability to snap two apps in tablet mode. It's broken with this customization.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum. I will certainly help you with this.

I would suggest you to check with the a new User Account

Create a local user account in Windows 10

If this does not help, run the SFC scan to find the errors on the system files.

Perform SFC scan

I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. It is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Refer the link:  Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Steps for Windows 8.1 applies to Windows 10.

Please reply us with these information and the current status of your computer we will be happy to assist you further.

Hi community

I wish we can find a solution for this issue and not just drop it. It really takes away a lot of functionality in windows 10 for certain configuration of hardware. As I wrote before, managed to fix the font size and is clearly readable, but now I can't snap to apps in tablet mode because the content seems to be "too big", probably because of my display characteristics. I also noticed that the live tiles stopped working when using a scale different to 100% or 125%.

Hi Isha,

Thank you for your reply.

Switching to different User Accounts did not change the outcome. Text size in certain apps remain small or get smaller after setting change.

I ran the SFC scan  and "Windows Resources Protection did not find any integrity violations".

I don't think this has anything to do with my upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. It may be a bug within the personalization settings.

If I were to open Facebook  in a web browser such as firefox the text size matches the settings I have made, whereas the App doesn't match.  The problem occurs when for some Apps don't sync up after increasing the display scale.

Apps that changed text size include : News, Twitter, Firefox, Edge, Calender, Chrome..

Apps that stayed the same or got smaller:  Command Prompt, Facebook, Rdio..

Also, this may be a problem with the App developers and not Windows 10. Perhaps

others can add to the list I've started...

I have the same problem.

I've tried create new user and checked missing or corrupted system files, but this didn't resolve my problem. Also i tried change scale, the same result.

As with the other responders the methods that you suggested did not fix the problem. You may have a lot of people out there wondering how to get readable text and getting very frustrated.

Setting dpi to 130% does fix the facebook app font size problem.

Somehow, I think some dpi settings (e.g. 125%, 150%, 175%, 200%) are "special" in that they get special treatment from the O/S (perhaps pre-renedered font hints or something).  The Facebook app certainly did something to break things when under these "special" settings.

Nevertheless, the app is actually not supposed to know or really care how large the system fonts are.  Not sure it this reflects on the coding of the app or the O/S.

I have a Surface 3, and when running Windows 10 in Tablet mode, the 8.1 apps open the 'correct' size (as they did when running 8.1). When not in Tablet mode, they are smaller font again.

All other tablets that I have upgraded have the small font issue whether in Tablet or non Tablet mode.

I have created three 8.1 apps and am concerned that they lose a lot of readability and hence use-ability in W10. I can't find anyone who knows the cause, let alone the potential fix for the issue. Very frustrating.

Ye, yes, Very frustrating., and I am concerned that Microsoft has not stepped up to the plow, and made a correction!  Thanks much for your comment.

Yes, U continue to have this problem with Windows 10!  In 8.1, I could set the font size wot 125%, and it woul dhold for all websites that open.  Now, with W10, it does not doe same!  So, whey is it the Microsoft has not taken the bull-by-the-horns, and corrected it?

My biggest problems, aside  from the Fonts, is the 7, or 9 font size in the emails, or otherwise, even though I continually change, and have 14-size fonts that do not show up!
