*Resolved* Cannot change, add, remove, resize or move tiles on start menu.

*RESOLVED - Read till the end*

I cannot change specific settings from start menu.

I cannot change the location of tiles, cannot add or remove tiles, cannot resize them, can't move them around.

These are settings which I can't change from settings menu in start.

1. Show more tiles option in Settings->Personalization->Start is turned gray i.e. can't be changed.

2. This is written on the top of the page. "Some settings are managed by your organization".

Only setting that i can access is to turn a live tile off by right click on that live tile. Right-click->more->turn live tile off. Nothing else available.

I have this problem in start menu since I've updated my windows 10. It was fine when I updated it from 8.1 but after some updates of Win 10, this problem is there.

Using Windows 10 Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.71)

Help plz

Update:

Hi guys,

Fortunately my problem has been solved but unfortunately none of the above mentioned procedures (of editing registry or something else) worked. Instead it was all the same no matter what. But then some update came for windows and as usual i updated it and suddenly problem was gone. Now i can edit start menu tiles as i want.

If you are interested then this is the update that resolved my problem

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3147458)

Now i'm running Windows 10 Pro version 1511 OS build 10586.218

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the reply Anup

Yeah I've already tried for such situations but first, my computer is not connected to any organizational domain. It is just my personal use laptop. I use it for studies, games etc.

Secondly I have only one account on it that is the one and only administrator account.

Hi,

Thanks for the update and response.

As you say that the laptop is not connected to any domain or organizational network and it is for your personal use.

Method 1: Microsoft Account Troubleshooter

Hi,

Your help is appreciated.

I have already tried Method 3 about 3 days ago. It didn't fixed anything. Method 2: Troubleshooter just fails to recognize if something is wrong with windows.

Finally I tried method 1 which fixed my LAN Proxy settings (which i didn't knew were of the way somehow :D ) but couldn't resolve the required issue. It showed two other problems

1. No rootcauses found and created logs.

2. Some settings have sync turned off.

I don't know about the first one but about second one; all of the sync settings are turned on in system settings from start menu.

Thanks alot

Hi,

I've got the exact same issues. I've got Win 10 pro and I can't edit the tiles on the start menu, probably due to the "some settings are managed by your organization" message which won't go away. I tried the command prompt methods and got the same results as Anas.

Please, can you help resolve this issue!

Hi,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

If you have tried the above steps and issue persists, then I would suggest you to perform Automatic repair and see if it helps.

If you don't have the installation media then try to create an installation media from the link provided below and then try to perform Automatic Repair and rebuild boot configuration data (BCD).

Step 1: Create ISO for Windows 10

You may also refer to the article mentioned below to for downloading Windows 10 on your computer.

Download Windows 10

Step 2: Perform an Automatic repair

The Automatic repair can detect and fix the issues that prevent the computer from working normally.

After you have a Windows 10 installation disc/USB, follow these steps:

1.    When your computer starts, wait for the manufacturer logo to check the option for boot menu, it will usually be F12.

2.    The boot menu key might differ with each manufacturer. If you are unable to find the boot menu key, you may refer the user manual.

3.    Restart the computer, when the manufacturer's logo is displayed, keep pressing the Boot menu option key to enter the boot menu and change the boot option to CD\DVD ROM (in case you create DVD). Select USB in case you create USB.

4.    After you boot your computer using Windows DVD or System Repair Disc, a black screen      appears with gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press any key.

5.    Select the correct time and Keyboard type.

6.    Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.

7.    Click on Troubleshootingadvanced option and then click Startup Repair

Do keep us updated.

Regards,

Ramesh Kumar.
