Pin to start - NOT WORKING.

Hi,

just installed Win10. And already facing very small and annoying problem which i wonder how MS could overlook.

If I try to "pin to start" any shortcut or application/.exe just nothing will happen, start menu is not reacting on this action. Same with "unpin from start".

???

Hi Alex,

  1. Were there any changes made on the computer prior to the issue?
  2. Are you able to pin other Windows Store apps?

System File Checker is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files. Follow these steps to run the command and check if it helps.

  1. Press Windows key + X on the keyboard.
  2. Click on Command prompt (Admin).
  3. Type ‘sfc /scannow’ without quotes and hit Enter.

Let us know the results. If the issue persists, we’re here to help.

"sfc /scannow" unfortunately didn't help.
It occurs only from time to time and can be temporarily fixed by killing the Windows Shell Experience Host or by restarting the Explorer.exe.

If it occurs you can't pin or unpin anything. If you try to unpin a tile and then move that tile to a different group the startmenu will crash.
The eventlog reports the following (German, but it could help nonetheless):

Hi Rohit,

1. No changes made on the computer, this problem was there with first boot of system after clean install.

2. No, I'm unable to "pin to start" default apps and apps installed from Windows Store, same as any other shortcuts.

sfc scan said that there were some corrupt files and it did restored it successfully. My problem with start menu is still here (I've tried to reboot system too). How can I provide log file to you?

Other users are reporting same problem, and this gif shows my problem http://i.imgur.com/A0FaRXj.gifv - start menu is not reacting on any actions.

Hello Rohit

I have the same problem. I ran the sfc/scannow and it said "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

Rohit,

upgrade repair didn't worked. This is unacceptable for me, I'm loosing my time trying to make Win10 work.

10 preview builds, so many loud words during PR events, and basic functions are broken...

What internet security are you using?

I have had exactly the same problem and I found the cause to be Kaspersky Internet Security 2016. I removed it and the start menu worked again but as soon as I put Kaspersky back on, the menu stopped working..

Have tried it twice on different machines and it is the same result.
