Make font Bold for Windows 10 Version 1709

I installed windows 10 version 1709, and cannot get the desktop fonts to enlarge.  The fonts are very small and I do not want to enlarge the icons. I would like bold fonts.  All I find is how to enlargen print 125% which is not what I need.

Version 1607 allowed us to change font size for icons and to make the font bold too, this is what I need at the type now is very small and skinny.

This was removed from Version 1709 to the chagrin of many users.

If you'd also like to express your option about this to Microsoft you'll need to use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. You can even click the Share button there to generate a link to your Feedback to post back here for others to vote up or add to it. But Microsoft will not see it here as this is a mostly volunteer-staffed forums where we try to solve your problems.

The Fall Creators Update “improved” the Control panel to eliminate the option for users change just the system Font Size. Complain to MS using the Feedback Hub.

There are a couple of Workarounds:
- Registry Hack
- Dedicated applet to change just the font size
- Winaero Tweaker untility to customize many Windows settings

I have used earlier versions of Winaero Tweaker with no problems.

Note: in Winaero Tweaker, font changes are spread through several options to limit changes to specific features. ie under “Advanced Appearance Settings” in:
- “Icons”, change font for Desktop and Explorer icons
. - “menus” change just for menus
- “Message Font”

I have already informed the feedback hub about this yesterday after this version was automatically downloaded.  I am frustrated because I am not a pro but can do some tech stuff.

I do not really want to download any software as this usually leads to virus and malware slipping with the download. I have had problems before with this happening even from "secure" sites.

How does one edit the registry?  This is where I have little knowledge and hesitate to do anything that would compromise my laptop.  But I really would like to find out how to make the fonts bolder for icons and small menu options and headers.

Hi Kymerah, Microsoft removed the option to adjust the font sizes in the Creators Update

Most Users are using a great small free utility called Winaero Tweaker, which will let you adjust font sizes anywhere in Windows 10.

To adjust the font and font size in File Explorer:
Open Winaero Tweaker
On the left click Icons in the Advanced Appearance Settings Section
Then click 'Change Font'
Set your Font Size . . . etc.
Click Apply Changes

Then either log out or restart your PC for the change(s) to take effect

Feel free to ask back any questions. I don't normally recommend tweaking software and do not recommend using it for anything other than the font changes if the registry edit is too much for you. But Winaero is a respectable site and the tool has no complaints I've seen in nine years daily in forums during which I've held the Microsoft MVP award for seven.

I know nothing about changing the registry so have no idea how to change it to get both larger font as well as making font bold.  Do you know how to do this?

I hesitate to download software from sites.  Two years ago I had several problems with malware so bad, my only recourse was to buy a new laptop. Now I use both Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro to keep myself clear yet still get them through well known web sites.  Now tho I am able to quarentine them and delete them before they can do anything.  

I am still considering the software but I keep hoping some other simple solution will develop.
