[Issue] Unusual Grid Lines Appearing on Monitor Screen - Windows 10

Hello everybody! I'll be quick and straight to the point with my problem, while giving as much information as I can. Ever since I successfully upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, my display monitor has been displaying a weird grid. The grid seems to consist of a slightly transparent, white color and takes up the entire screen. Sometimes, however, it may not be clearly visible when blended in with certain other content within the display. This annoying detail is most noticeable on the Windows taskbar and the app menu.

  • Here are steps I have taken to try and solve this problem:
    • Updated my drivers (graphics card, display adapter, etc.)
    • Updated the Windows operating system via the 'Settings' app.
    • Ran a virus/malware scan.
    • Adjusted the screen resolution to see if the problem still existed, by which it did.
    • Hard rebooted the PC
    • Troubleshooted problems using the Windows troubleshooter packages.

Unfortunately, I am baffled as to what to do next. I have searched countless times online in attempts to finding someone else with the exact same problem. This grid-like thing sitting on my screen has got to go.  I would highly appreciate any assistance regarding this topic, many thanks.

Hello, and thanks for responding to my problem! I'm not entirely sure what you mean by changes. Does that count changing backgrounds or installing various programs? As far as that, here is the information you requested:

  • System Info:
    • System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
    • System Model: Inspiron 3542
    • System Type: x64-bit

  • Operating System Info:

    • Windows Version: Windows 10 Home
    • Version: 10.0.10586
    • Build #: 10586

Let me know if there's any more data you need. Once again, thank you.

Hey @Nachappa C K! I'd like to confirm that the instructions you provided, regarding the use of the command prompt, have been performed. Both scans were ran without any problems, however; neither one had detected any issues with my PC.

I am still seeing the "grid lines" within my laptop's display monitor as of now. Is there any additional assistance you(or another) can provide me with? I appreciate that you got back to me within a very short amount of time, and apologize for the late reply.

Well, now that you've mentioned it, there usually is a ton of application processes that run on my PC daily. Every once in a while I'll encounter degraded performance...only to find that my entire 'Disk Memory' is being hoarded up to 100% usage.

Currently, I only have three startup programs running(all of which I need). One is an antivirus program, while the other two are hard to explain. Here is a screenshot of the Task Manager if needed:

Does it appear when you boot into Safe Mode?

Can you disable your startup items long enough to see if one of them is creating the grid?

I haven't tried that yet. Time management hasn't been very friendly to me lately(thus the late replies). I will see if the grid still appears on my screen, and update you as soon as I can. Thank you for your patience!

Hello again, Keith! I am deeply sorry for my prolonged absence, but have a quick update for you.

It seems that disabling nearly every startup program doesn't help. Currently, I am still seeing the unexplained grid-like distortion on my screen. I'm very baffled as what to do next, and would highly appreciate any advice you(or anyone else) can give.
