Desktop icons reset

Since Windows 10 TH2 upgrade my desktop icons reorganize themselves whenever I turn my TV on and off.

TV is connected to an Asus GTX750 via HDMI.

I've seen many people mentioning similar issues and I did try out some of the solutions suggested without luck.

Rebooting the PC without touching the TV does not cause the issue.

Refreshing the Dekstop does not trigger issue either.

It's really just happening when I turn off and on the TV.

I appreciate your effort to try to resolve the issue.

You may want to update the display drivers to check if that helps.

 
Educate op that Windows Update may have updated drivers available that may be relevant to your current issue. Many times, updated drivers are listed in the "Optional" section of Windows Update. Install any pending updates on the pc to check if that helps.

Same issue with the latest display drivers (359.00) and older ones too.

No Windows update pending.

OS Build: 10586.11

I have the same issue on my laptop with latest Intel Iris drivers. It randomly happens when I open CS:GO and sometimes when icons get refreshed itself. Your help will be really aprreciated.

There is apparently a lot of things that could lead to Desktop Icons Reset.

Many people have those issues but often with different root cause.

In this other thread someone provided the following suggestion. Maybe the 'full range' trick could work.

In many cases, this is caused by your monitor.  Yes, your monitor.  When using some monitors connected via DisplayPort, turning OFF your monitor using the power button and back on again will cause this icon issue.

This is easy to test,  Turn your monitor off for a minute, then back on.  If your desktop icons moved, it's the monitor.

Solutions:  

1.  Don't turn off your monitor using the power button.  Set Windows Power Management to turn your display off instead.

or

2.  Switch your monitor cable connection to HDMI !!!

I had a Microsoft Support Tech connect to my PC to take a look at the issue for two hours and he could not fix it.

He ended up creating a new Windows local user and we thought that fixed it at first but in fact it did not.

Great news, I reinstalled Windows because I had lots of icons and it was really annoying to rearrange them every time I open CS. At first bug was still there but after some time this issue fixed itself. Really weird... :/

Due to the various side effects a TV power cycle was having on my apps and desktop I eventually realized that turning off and on the TV caused Windows 10 to trigger a change of resolution and/or font size/DPI.

After some research I forced the same DPI for all my displays, virtual and physical by doing the following:

- Go in "Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display".

- Click on "set custom scaling level".

- Set it to whatever works for you. 100% was working fine for me.
