Windows 10 Settings Icon is Blank on Taskbar when Running and Taskbar is Set to Small Icons

I have my taskbar set to small icons.

If I open "Settings" the app opens and a tile is started in the taskbar but the icon does not show on the tile. It is just blank.

If I change the taskbar to large icons then the settings icon shows but I have too many icons to run Windows in large icon mode.

I have tried to delete the icon cache and reboot but the problem remains.

Have you thought of not putting those that you do not use much just on the Start screen?

Unpinning them from the taskbar.

If you do not use them for a week or two or less often why have them cluttering up the taskbar.

I use all the shortcuts on my taskbar regularly. Irrespective of whether I need them or not the icon for settings should appear whether I am using small or large icons.

I run a different language to English US and had removed English US. When I did that none of the apps as opposed to regular programs would show on the taskbar as icons.

I reinstalled US English as the second language and the store apps were appearing as icons again.

The only app that is no longer appearing as an icon is the settings app.

As I said I have tried deleting the icon cache.

Hello Flavio,

We recommend starting your PC in safe mode, it loads Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. Refer to the steps provided on this article.

If the issue persists, we suggest running the System File Checker tool, it's a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

We look forward to your response.

Regards.

I just installed the Fall Creators Update and afterwards ran the System File Checker. There are no corruptions. Yet as the original poster. The Icon for the Settings App is empty in the Taskbar.

Before the update, the icon was showing properly.

I'm on a Surface Pro 4 running Windows 10 Pro, Version 1709, Build 16299.19

I think you may misunderstand the problem. See the screenshot as to what is happening. And just for completeness, i've tried to pin/unpin the settings app, that doesn't change anything.
